"Even his prayer is an abomination..."

In Proverbs 28:9, the writer says:

"He who turns away his ear from listening to the law, Even his prayer is an abomination."

The word for "law" in this passage is "Torah." This passage literally says that when a person who turns away from the Torah prays, that very prayer is an abomination!

The Christian church at large for many centuries has quoted the Apostle Paul as saying that the "Law" is ended, done away by the fulfillment of Christ. Yet, that's not how Jesus viewed His mission in Matthew 5: "17 "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. 18 "For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished. 19 "Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. "

If Paul had actually meant that the Law was done away with, then he is most certainly "least in the kingdom of heaven." Moreover, if he was turning away from the Torah, any and all of his prayers would be an abomination before God!

I submit to you, that's not the Apostle Paul as recorded in Scripture who was faithful to the Torah in all he did (Acts 24:14; 25:8).

Brothers and sisters in Christ. Let's stop taking the Apostle Paul out of context to defend our "turning away from listening to the Torah!" Let's stop rebelling in the Body of Christ to His Torah and come back to His complete Word! Let's turn away from sin, which is defined in Scripture as the "transgression of the Law" (1 John 3:4).

Let's not turn our ear from listening to the Torah. Perhaps our prayers would become holy once again.
