| The Gospel of Mattityahu (Matthew) from a Jewish Perspective Course MaterialsDo you understand the Gospel of Matthew in its' Jewish frame of reference? The Gospel of Mattityahu (Matthew) is a very "Jewish" book.It emphasizes the birth, life, mission, and teachings of Yeshua (Jesus) from a perspective that has deep roots into Jewish thought and practice. This Gospel contains many typologies, motifs, idioms, parables and references to fulfilled Scripture from the Hebrew Scriptures (TANAKH) to reach Jewish people with the Good News (Basorah) of their Jewish Messiah Yeshua! For instance, in the geneology of Matthew chapter 1, we see Matthew dividing up the generations from Avraham to David, from David to the Babylonian Exile, and from the Babylonian Exile to the Messiah into 14 generations each. Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, to do this he leaves out some names. Why? Hint: It has to do with Moshiach ben David! The name DaViD (daleth vav daleth) equates in Jewish gematria (numerology) to the number 14! In Matthew 6:22 and 23, Yeshua speaks of the "good eye/evil eye." What is He talking about? Hint: It isn't something to do with warding off evil spirits or wearing talismans! (It is talking about being stingy or generous!) Did Yeshua "...do away with the Torah and the Prophets?" Understand Yeshua' position of the Torah and the Prophets (Matthew 5:17-21). Hint: The words "abolish" and "fulfill" have nothing to do with doing away with the Torah or completing Torah, but rather correctness of interpretation of the Torah! They are rabbinical terms used in the First Century. Did you know that Yeshua did not come up with the concept of the "Golden Rule" (Matthew 7:12)? Hint: He simply took a teaching from Rabbi Hillel (from the preceding generation of rabbis) and put a "positive spin" on it! You will learn about PaRDeS (the four forms of Biblical exposition) with its "Remez" ("hintings"). You will learn about the "kal va'chomer" ("light and heavy") and how Yeshua used it in His argumentation with the Parushim (Pharisees) over the Shabbat and other issues. You will learn the construct of a Mashal (Parable) and how to interpret it. You will learn all this and more in this Bible College-level Course! This Course consists of::
